God is always trying to get our attention. He’s always trying to talk to us, comfort us, bring us peace. Sometimes he uses the most unlikely of messengers.
In times of despair or crisis we reach out and pray. Asking for help or comfort is not an uncommon request. During our daily lives we might ask God to bless our meal, family members, friends, or people experiencing times of challenge. We may take a moment before bedtime to reflect on the day and speak to him. Morning routines often include a few thoughts and blessings.
However, after our prayers are sent, where do they go? Does God have some middle man intercepting prayers, labeling them appropriately to arrive in some kind of universal email box?
He always has time for us, always. In all of our busyness we might get distracted and forget to make time for him. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that doing things for too long without making time for God causes me to fall apart.
I make time for him and he makes it clear that he’s made time for me… I’m blessed accordingly.
God talks to me by always providing the perfect person to answer my questions at the perfect time. What I need always finds a way to make itself known. Help arrives during my darkest hour and even on the freeway or at the grocery store (if I’m paying attention) I can see his goodness. Granted, it might not always be the way I want, but regardless, he’s there.
God sends us people. Angels. Messengers… They look just like you and me. They ARE you and me. When we make time for God he will work through us. He uses us as a vessel to make himself known and remembered in the world. Our kindness is him. Our gentleness is him. Our forgiveness is him. The love we feel so compelled to share in the world and the compassion we have is God. His character reveals itself through us when we get out of our own way and let the best parts of him shine.
On my own I take things for granted. I’m human. I have free will. I often do what I choose. I do things that I want, not always the things that God wants. When I follow my wants my things don’t work out. They don’t have staying power, they fizzle. I fizzle. When I serve others and do good in the world it’s clear that I am doing what pleases him.
I like pleasing him. It makes life more beautiful. I feel in harmony with all of life when I make time for God… He always makes time for me.
I love you. God loves you.
I work for him.
